A supermarket in the midwest USA. Spectrally selective vision glass on store front and in clerestory along side of building. Strong, moving shadows offer no redeeming visual value to shoppers. Extreme glare renders bar code readers at check-out counters dysfunctional. Late afternoon shoppers in aisles will suffer increasing glare and discomfort from lower sun streaking in through upper sections of storefront window. Shades would be expensive, bothersome and would reduce overall lighting levels.
Same supermarket with storefront window above 10 feet and clerestory equipped with SoleraTM. Front section of store fills with re-distributed daylight. Customers are aware only that store has a special airy quality that's pleasant to be in. Bar code readers are functional..and busy. Daylight harvesting is an option.
